RBBL Challenge Week 8:

Launch your own LEGO theme!

If you haven’t heard, there’s a new LEGO theme coming out called Monkey Kid, based on a popular Chinese fable. We want to see what new theme you’d like LEGO to produce. Need inspiration? The LEGO Ideas website is full of submissions from great builds who want to see their stories come to life.

Your submission should look like a small LEGO set, with minifigures and some kind of build that tells us something about your theme.

Need special minifigure parts, color scheme, or specialty parts?
The RBBL Team can help you figure out just what you need to finish out your theme! We also have Bulk Brick Boxes full of random parts available for $10 each, or you can schedule a time to pick out your own parts at the store! (Mask Required. $5 BBB discount only applies to pre-filled boxes of random parts.)

This week’s prize will help you expand your theme!

Now that the store is partially open, Bulk Brick Boxes with random parts will be $10, 30# tubs are still $90 (when you bring your own tub), AND you can make a reservation to fill your own Bulk Brick Box (for $15), Boxes will $15 and available on Wednesday from 11-7. You do not have to purchase a Box to participate in the challenge. All builders that post their builds on the Facebook Group or with #roguebrickbuilders, will get a free Day Pass for their hard work whenever we reopen the buildspace.

RULES: All ages welcome to enter a build. The RBBL Team will collectively pick their favorite build based on presentation, story (whether written or implicit with the build), and creative use of parts. Photography is very important since we can't see it in person, yet. Try to use natural light (cloudy days are great), neutral backgrounds, and keep your camera steady.

Submit as many entries as you want, but one day pass per builder. We'll keep a list of day pass winners and give them out with your next purchase or whenever we see you next.

Our favorite build will receive a Custom Built Set w/ Minifigures using their theme ($50 value)! Deadline is May 26th at 11:59pm

A few pointers to get started!

Choose something unique, but that others can still relate to — I love Robert Heinlein books, but there just aren’t enough people that know enough about his stories to understand the builds. That’s one reason I usually build Star Wars MOCs, because they are (usually) more recognizable and more broadly enjoyed.

Keep it small — Small and detailed always trumps large and plain.

Focus on the Minifigures — Most would agree that minifigures are the coolest part of a LEGO set. (That’s why they can be so expensive.) Think about what attributes are most important for capturing your unique characters and let us know how we can help out.
