RBBL Challenge Week 1: Flying Boats

boat1.jpg

Make staying at home fly by with RBBL Challenges!

Have you been looking for a fun, creative way to keep you and your family occupied while staying at home? Maybe even opportunities to learn and earn cool prizes? Well look no further! Every week, the Rogue Brick will be announcing new, exciting challenges to help all of our builders out there to not only have fun, but also to grow as a community and discover new techniques along the way.

Each week we'll be packing Bulk Brick Boxes with parts picked specifically to help builders with weekly challenges! Bulk Brick Boxes can be purchased on Wednesdays over the phone, and with easy curbside delivery! This week you'll find pieces to help start your boat, as well as some extra special and truly unique pieces to make it really stand out.* The sky's the limit!

In need of some extra inspiration?

Check out our flying boats gallery and our building techniques down below! These give your builders a great place to start, but builds can be as creative and unique as their hearts desire. As long as it's a flying boat to them, they've hit the mark with us!

You are not required to purchase a Bulk Brick Box to submit a build. However, Ryan has worked hard to carefully pack these boxes full of great, unique parts with specific color schemes. They'll sit for 72 hours before being available to purchase on Wednesday.
Purchases can be made over the phone (817-720-3330) or curbside. Bulk Brick Boxes are $15 (+tax). Local delivery available W-F. We suggest you reserve a box ASAP to make sure you get one.
Want minifigures to match your boat?
The RBBL Team can get those together, too, for $4 each or 3 for $10. If you'd like minifigures, let us know when you reserve your box so we have plenty of time to get creative with them.

Basic Boat Structure

The trick to building a flying boat is SNOT (Studs Not On Top) techniques. Build the bottom spine of the boat, and then build out with slopes and wedges to create the boat hull. This technique can also be used to build a cabin, or to attach fun features such as life preservers, chains, excitingly- textured bricks, and anything else your heart desires!

boat2.jpg

Details Are Important

Small details are what give these boats so much character. Focus on the small things. Use splashes of color to give them life, or use varying parts to give them fun textures.

Origins of the Flying Boats
There are several themes at play with flying boats. Many builders attribute their inspiration to concept artist Ian McQue, but most LEGO fans will be familiar with their use in Ninjago, particularly the Cyperpunk-esque Destiny's Bounty.

*The Bulk Brick boxes won't have everything you're likely going to need to complete the build. But if you get stumped, post your WIP (Work In Progress) on the FB group and we'll help you work through it. Or, just post your WIPs because we love seeing how builds come together and suggesting new techniques :)

Show us how you soar and you could win exciting prizes!

Does your boat fly with wings and propellers? Super high-powered engines? Or maybe even magic? No matter what floats (flies?) your boat this week, we would love to see it! Show off your fly skills on our RBBL Builders Facebook, Instagram, or Flickr with the tag #roguebrickbuilders and earn a Day Pass for all of your hard work! Even more exciting, our favorite build this week will earn a Summer Pass to our Buildspace, so that the fun can go all season long and you get a discount on Summer Camps!

RULES: All ages welcome to enter a build. The RBBL Team will collectively pick their favorite build based on presentation, story (whether written or implicit with the build), and creative use of parts. Builds should be small and shot against a plain background in a way that looks like it is floating (using white support bricks against a white background works just fine). Photography is very important since we can't see it in person, yet. Try to use natural light (cloudy days are great) and keep your camera steady.

Submit as many entries as you want, but one day pass per builder. We'll keep a list of day pass winners and give them out with your next purchase or whenever we see you next.

Deadline for entries April 7th at midnight.

How to start your pop-up book

We will offer two choices in Bulk Brick Boxes this week.

The first will have parts to create the official LEGO pop-up book’s mechanism and some parts for the cover and “pages.” This mechanism is a little difficult. You can follow the instructions for LEGO’s pop-up book, or check out our sample build. Parents may want to help with this part, and please feel free to reach out to us via email or Facebook messenger if you have any questions.

The second choice is a bit simpler. Instead of building a complex pop-up mechanism, you can also build along the spine of your book, much like the newest Disney Princess sets. To make a buildable surface along the spine, you’ll need to space out your SNOT (Studs Not on Top) bricks to lay a plate down the spine. Space SNOT bricks out by 2 plates, 2 bricks and a plate, or with 4 bricks to make the spacing work.

For both options, the book spine should be 4 studs in width, which allows for the “pages” to be 1 plate + 1 brick + 1 tile tall on both sides. You can make your books as tall as you’d like, just leave enough room for your mechanism if you’re doing that option.

Be sure to add some SNOT bricks to the inside of your cover so you can pose minifigures and other features to your build.

Build your story!

To add your story to your book, you’ll need a few technic pieces, but don’t worry, we have you covered. Start off by placing your modified 1x2 on the outside edge of the 2x12 plate and then joining it to your connector with your axle. From there, all you have to do is place a pin through your technic brick and connector.

Once you have your mechanism in place, the rest is up to you! Other LEGO masters have built caves, castles, western saloons, spooky graveyards, nativities, and all kinds of interesting facades that can be built on to the 2x12 plates in your box (or along the spine of the second box option).

You’re going to have to build a little and test it out as you go. Don’t get discouraged, this is a difficult build and you have a whole week to try it out. Be sure to see what kind of awesome features you can fit into the little empty space in the corners and along the spine, too.

*The Bulk Brick boxes won't have everything you're likely going to need to complete the build. But if you get stumped, post your WIP (Work In Progress) on the FB group and we'll help you work through it. Or, just post your WIPs because we love seeing how builds come together and suggesting new techniques :)

Show us your fantasy and you could win exciting prizes!

21315-1.png

Does your pop-up book tell the fairy tail of your dreams? Or a spooky story? Maybe even an important event from science or history? No matter what tale you need to tell, we would love to see it! Show off your magical skills on our RBBL Builders Facebook, Instagram, or Flickr with the tag #roguebrickbuilders and earn a Day Pass for all of your hard work! Even more exciting, our favorite build this week will earn a LEGO Ideas Brick Tales Pop-Up Box (set# 21315).

RULES: All ages welcome to enter a build. The RBBL Team will collectively pick their favorite build based on presentation, story (whether written or implicit with the build), and creative use of parts. Photography is very important since we can't see it in person, yet. Try to use natural light (cloudy days are great) and keep your camera steady.

Submit as many entries as you want, but one day pass per builder. We'll keep a list of day pass winners and give them out with your next purchase or whenever we see you next.

Deadline for entries to be considered for 1st prize is April 14th at midnight.

LEGO Shadow Art

Grab a lamp, close the blinds,

these builds will blow your minds!

Week 3 Overview

This week’s challenge is meant to be much more approachable and teach kids one of the most important skills in MOC-building - thinking creatively about shapes to fit your design.

A lot of MOC-building comes down to thinking through what parts are available, what parts you need, and finding the way to attach them. LEGO shadow art will take a lot of trial and error, but it’ll also teach your builder that there is no one, correct piece for your build, but a myriad of ways to build a wing, a cockpit, a tower, a plant… anything. This is also a great collaborative opportunity for the whole family. Think of it as a puzzle that everybody can contribute pieces to.

r2d2-red-hong-yi-starwars-shadows-1024x682.jpg
stormtrooper-red-hong-yi-starwars-shadows-1024x682.jpg

How to show off your dark side

LEGO pieces will cast different shadows depending on where they are placed and from what angle, so don’t be afraid to play around with your placement. Creating multiple layers of pieces helps to create depth and allows you to adjust the size and the way that your shadow will project. If your shadow is coming out too big, try moving it back further; or if you’d like your shadow to be a little more bold, try moving it slightly more into the foreground.

There are also no incorrect ways to attach your pieces this week! Play around with SNOT (Studs Not on Top) bricks or clips to attach pieces to the sides and front of your build, or use hinges and jumpers in order to uniquely angle your pieces.

One extra way to add a little pop of color to your build is using different colored translucent bricks.

This week’s challenge is all about trial and error and the fun that goes along with it; so try out some new and creative placements, think outside of the box, and most importantly- have fun!

Tips and Tricks to help you shine

As shadows can be unpredictable, a great place to start is by setting up your light fixture where you’re planning on projecting your LEGO art work. As different angles and different amounts of light may distort the way your shadow projects, it’s important to find a spot where obstructions and other light sources can be blocked. A bright, direct light works best, but any household lamp will work in a pinch!

Once your setup is complete, you are now ready to start your shadowy masterpiece! Some silhouette artists find that sketching their creation and placing it on the wall helps them better visualize where they want their pieces to go. Think of it as a guideline that you don’t have to be afraid of coloring outside of. Or, feel free to freehand your creation and let your imagination shine!

*The Bulk Brick boxes won't have everything you're likely going to need to complete the build. But if you get stumped, post your WIP (Work In Progress) on the FB group and we'll help you work through it. Or, just post your WIPs because we love seeing how builds come together and suggesting new techniques :)

We won’t keep you in the dark- Learn more about this week’s Bulk Brick Boxes and Prizes!

This week’s Bulk Brick Boxes will be fairly random parts + one 16x32 baseplate to start your build. You’ll also need a lamp and a blank wall to project a shadow. Because long bars, axles, and supports are hard to come by, try using long, 2-stud-wide plates to hold up your pieces. See examples in the RBBL Builders Facebook Group.

Per usual, Boxes will $15 and available on Wednesday from 11-7. You can reserve a box by replying to our post in the Facebook Group, emailing Build@RogueBrick.com, or calling the store at 817-720-3330 (we’ll be open Monday and Tuesday 10-2). You do not have to purchase a Box to participate in the challenge. All builders that post their builds on the Facebook Group or with #roguebrickbuilders, will get a free Day Pass for their hard work whenever we reopen the buildspace.

RULES: All ages welcome to enter a build. The RBBL Team will collectively pick their favorite build based on presentation, story (whether written or implicit with the build), and creative use of parts. Photography is very important since we can't see it in person, yet. Try to use bright, direct light in a dark room and keep your camera steady.

Submit as many entries as you want, but one day pass per builder. We'll keep a list of day pass winners and give them out with your next purchase or whenever we see you next.

Our favorite build will receive $50 in-store credit to use however they wish! Deadline is Tuesday April 21 at 11:59pm.

RBBL Challenge Week 4: Microbuilds

microtown.jpg

Small builds with big character!

This week’s build is meant to help you look at the little things in life. Although micro-builds seem simple, they also require plenty of creativity and innovation in order to bring your dream landscape to life.

As pieces can be used in an unlimited number of ways, builders will need to think outside of the box in order to find unique uses and attachments for their pieces.

Screenshot 2018-12-17 at 8.41.21 AM.png

Getting another perspective

With micro-builds, parts will look and act a lot differently than they would have on a regular sized build- so it’s important to think outside of the box. Grills can be become skyscraper windows, binoculars can be turned into blasters, cones can be used as colorful rooftops or peaceful trees, and houses can be made out of just 1 or 2 bricks. SNOT (Studs Not on Top) bricks are also great for attaching small details, or make great windows on their own. One of the most exciting things about micro-building is that you can put a lot of thought into each piece, so don’t be afraid to spend extra time testing out different pieces or trying unique connections!

32468304340_22daaa71fe_b.jpg
micro.jpg

Think about your scale

One of the most important parts to starting your micro-build is to pick your scale. Whether you base it off of microfigure size or a small part of your build that you’ve already started, keeping a consistent size will help your build become lifelike and easily recognizable! If a piece feels too large or doesn’t look quite right, test out pieces you wouldn’t normally use. Bricks can be swapped for plates and tiles, larger slopes can be swapped out for cheese slopes, and 1x1 plates (studs) can be used for just about everything!

The MILS Standard

The Modular Integrated Landscaping System is a set of rules and guidelines created to help builders create and connect large dioramas in an organized way. While the MILS standard is not required, we do encourage it, especially if you’d like to join more than one build together. Even if you’d like to write your own rules, the MILS link down below provides many great examples of different landscapes and textures!

For these 16x16 builds, we suggest a 2x2 bricks on the corners, followed by 1x2 technic bricks as shown here. But feel free to get the general idea and use whatever works best for your build.

And don’t forget the spaceships!

Our favorite spaceships are usually quite large, but in microscale, you can still build them with your own bricks and include them in your build.

*The Bulk Brick boxes won't have everything you're likely going to need to complete the build. But if you get stumped, post your WIP (Work In Progress) on the FB group and we'll help you work through it. Or, just post your WIPs because we love seeing how builds come together and suggesting new techniques :)

This week’s prizes are anything but micro!

This week’s Bulk Brick Boxes will contain one 16x16 baseplate as well as an exciting mix of small pieces to start your build! Each Bulk Brick Box has a unique set of colors meant to add a fun surprise to your landscape. Whether you get pieces for an arctic wonderland, an exciting lava lair, a daring mountain side, or any other thrilling combination, you’ll surely be in for a small treat!

Anything Star Wars Challenge!

Celebrate May the 4th with a custom Star Wars build!

We’re letting you know about this one early so we can prepare a custom tailored Bulk Brick Box for your build. Let us know today through Saturday what you’d like to build, and we’ll prepare a Bulk Brick Box with the type of parts we think you’ll need to get it done.

Want specialty parts, vegetation, printed pieces, or minifigures? Just set a budget and we’ll keep adding parts until we’ve hit that number.

Tips for building a Star Wars MOC!

  • Mix themes - Old castles with electrical wiring; desert temples with droid butlers; flying pirate ships; lowly farmers surrounded by psychedelic, florescent mushrooms; futuristic, floating cities with flying hotrods; pretty much any Star Wars location or vehicle is a mix themes so that they look both alien and relatable.

  • Make it look lived in - The Star Wars galaxy is very old and they know how to reuse a space, but they’re not great at repairing walls or keeping the paneling on their spaceships. Getting the right amount of decay often requires building the basic structure, and then tearing it apart to build in a layer behind it. Check out this Jedha build for an example of exposed bricks and decay.

  • Earth tones with splashes of brighter colors - Along with making the universe look lived in, your color palette will help set the mood. Use dower earth-tones but don’t forget to add a colorful stripe to your spaceship or speeder. You can also blend from the brighter colors to duller colors to show more decay.

  • Keep checking in - I’ll add more tips as I think of them or people can suggest their own tips by emailing build@roguebrick.com!

So Many Possibilities

Something we love about Star Wars is that you can incorporate so many building techniques, themes, and concepts. Thats also why there is no single Bulk Brick Box that could fit all the Star Wars MOCs waiting to be built.

*The Bulk Brick boxes won't have everything you're likely going to need to complete the build. But if you get stumped, post your WIP (Work In Progress) on the FB group and we'll help you work through it. Or, just post your WIPs because we love seeing how builds come together and suggesting new techniques :)

This week’s Bulk Brick Boxes will contain an entirely custom set of pieces based off of your dream Star Wars build! Need sandy pieces for your Tatooine getaway? Exciting wing and cockpit pieces for your unique Star Fighter? All you have to do is tell us what you’d like to build and we’ll set up the rest from there. The galaxy is the limit!

Be sure to let us know what theme you’re building and if you’d like minifigures or more than $15 in parts.

RBBL Challenges are speeding by!

Since everybody has their Star Wars parts out and is still hyped about May the 4th, this week's building challenge is Speeders. Air Speeders like the Empire Strikes Back Snowspeeder, Landspeeders like Luke's from A New Hope, or a Speeder Bike like the scout troopers' in Return of the Jedi.

Need pilots for your speeder?
The RBBL Team can get those together, too! Feel free to request your favorite figures or set a budget and we’ll pick out some truly exciting figures for you. If you'd like minifigures, let us know when you reserve your box so we can make sure to reserve your favorites.

32916500972_b47c66cf1f_c.jpg

Tips and tricks to help you take off!

Start with the seats - Build a comfortable seat for your pilot/driver and build around it. This will help you keep the build compact while making sure you can still squeeze a minifigure in there.

SNOT - When you start with the seat you’ll need to build “out” rather than “up.” Use Studs-Not-On-Top techniques to give your speeder great angles.

Go old school - A lot of the speeders and ships from Star Wars are based on George Lucas’s love of classic muscle cars, so think about what makes those so iconic. Sleek lines, flashy colors, and sometimes exposed engines, Like many of our previous challenges, the trick to building your favorite speeder is SNOT (Studs Not On Top) bricks. Depending on your design, you can use them to build the base to your speeder; add wedges, blasters, or other cool textured pieces; and so much more!

Make them hover - Since speeders are most often airborne, using clear or well- hidden bricks helps to add depth to your build and give the illusion that they’re actually gliding.

RBBL Challenge Week 7: Build a Tree!

49838448552_4c7f27b897_c.jpg

Let’s get back to nature. Time to grow or build your own tree. This is actually much more difficult than it sounds!

Need leaves for your tree?
The RBBL Team can get those together, too! Let us know what kind of leaves you’d like and we’ll either grab one of our pre-packed vegetation boxes or pack a new one up just for you. All vegetation pieces will be 28.81% off (that’s .01% for every like we have on Facebook, so get us some more likes if you’d like a bigger discount).

Tips and tricks to help your build take root!

Assess Your Inventory - Leave are hard to come by because there are usually on a couple in the sets they come in. If you don’t have any traditional leaves, get creative and find other ways to make foliage. Sometimes it’s enough to just have a lot of small green plates stacked to give them texture.

Have a Plan - Leaves and branches can be pretty heavy. (On the build to the top left, I had to take my picture quickly because the leaves were too heavy for flex tube and they kept drooping.) Have a plan to support the weight with longer plates, interlocking bricks, and patience.

Build Organically - Plan, but don’t over-plan. You’ll want to use a wide variety of slopes, curves, and bricks to keep the tree from looking too uniform and stiff. Feel out the tree as you build. Think through how each branch would want to reach the sun and how the trunk would lean and curve to adjust to the weight.

Share your WIPs (Works-In-Progress) on our FB page to get tips and helpful critiques of your work so far.

We have a lot of brown already sorted, but if you want to try a birch tree, a black forest oak, or something really unique, let us know.

Vegetation pieces will also be 28.81% off (or .01% for each FB like we have when you order - so go get us some more likes if you’d like more of a discount). We have some vegetation boxes pre-packed, but we can also make more with exactly what you’re looking for to whatever budget you set.

Per usual, Boxes will $15 and available on Wednesday from 11-7. RBBL Challenge Week 8:

Launch your own LEGO theme!

If you haven’t heard, there’s a new LEGO theme coming out called Monkey Kid, based on a popular Chinese fable. We want to see what new theme you’d like LEGO to produce. Need inspiration? The LEGO Ideas website is full of submissions from great builds who want to see their stories come to life.

Your submission should look like a small LEGO set, with minifigures and some kind of build that tells us something about your theme.

Need special minifigure parts, color scheme, or specialty parts?
The RBBL Team can help you figure out just what you need to finish out your theme! We also have Bulk Brick Boxes full of random parts available for $10 each, or you can schedule a time to pick out your own parts at the store! (Mask Required. $5 BBB discount only applies to pre-filled boxes of random parts.)

This week’s prize will help you expand your theme!

Now that the store is partially open, Bulk Brick Boxes with random parts will be $10, 30# tubs are still $90 (when you bring your own tub), AND you can make a reservation to fill your own Bulk Brick Box (for $15), Boxes will $15 and available on Wednesday from 11-7.

Try to use natural light (cloudy days are great), neutral backgrounds, and keep your camera steady.

Submit as many entries as you want, but one day pass per builder. We'll keep a list of day pass winners and give them out with your next purchase or whenever we see you next.

Our favorite build will receive a Custom Built Set w/ Minifigures using their theme ($50 value)! Deadline is May 26th at 11:59pm

A few pointers to get started!

Choose something unique, but that others can still relate to — I love Robert Heinlein books, but there just aren’t enough people that know enough about his stories to understand the builds. That’s one reason I usually build Star Wars MOCs, because they are (usually) more recognizable and more broadly enjoyed.

Keep it small — Small and detailed always trumps large and plain.

Focus on the Minifigures — Most would agree that minifigures are the coolest part of a LEGO set. (That’s why they can be so expensive.) Think about what attributes are most important for capturing your unique characters and let us know how we can help out.

RBBL Challenge Week 9: One-to-One!

1:1!

What better way to learn about scale than to start with making something at a 1:1 scale? Either build a recognizable item, like something out of your house, in the exact same size out of LEGO; or scale up some kind of minifigure accessory to human scale.

Need bricks?
The Buildspace is now open so you can pick through and fill a Bulk Brick Box. We also have Bulk Brick Boxes full of random parts available for $10 each, and of course our inventory of over 300,000 parts in the back! (Mask Required. $5 BBB discount only applies to pre-filled boxes of random parts.)

A few pointers to get started!

Pay close attention to angles, colors, and structural integrity. Some angles are quite difficult to get with LEGO; the color palette is limited; and, since you’re dealing with a different type of material, you have to make sure your bricks can handle the weight of different parts of your build.

Take measurements. If you’re scaling up, a LEGO stud is roughly 1 m or 3 ft. But also be prepared to fudge the numbers a bit to make it look more accurate. Minifigures are very wide, clunky, and their accessories tend to be oversized.

More examples here.

RBBL Challenge Week 10: Single- Colored Builds

monochrome.jpg

Orange ya glad I didn’t say Light Salmon?

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if the world was all purple? I haven’t either. But today you get to explore this idea, build something using one color, it can be any shade of any color but it can only be that one shade, nothing else. Apart from that you can let your imagination run wild.

Don’t be blue! We have building tips just for you!

Use shadows - Since you can only use one color using shadows allows you to create different shades if the color you are using.

Don’t limit yourself to reality - You can build things that are actually the color you are using such as a grey castle or a green frog but don’t limit yourself to that make a caste out of purple are some other whimsical color. Or find something that is colorful and switch it up so it is all grey.

Make it obvious - Since you are only using one color some things aren’t going to be as noticeable, so you might have to exaggerate certain features for them to be noticed

RBBL Challenge Week 11: Buildings & Monuments

E-Spot-MOC-Eiffel-Colored.jpg

This is going to be monumental!

There are many famous building and monuments throughout the world. Most of these places are instantly recognizable by most people because of their unique shape or other interesting aspects. Choose a famous building and build it, or at least part of it.

Scale it down - You don’t have to make your monument minifigure scale, so feel free to make it micro

Use one color - Even though this was the challenge last week you can still do it this week, because most famous places are known for their shape or specific details. But if you do, make sure to look at the tips from last week as well!

Build the Surrounding area - Famous buildings often stand out, but if you only make the building it doesn’t always look right. When you build the area around it can make the building more impressive.

RBBL Challenge Week 12: Buildable Figures

48633487651_9cd7be0927_o (1).jpg

Builds that are more than the sum of their parts.

This weeks the challenge is to make a brick built figure. What is a brick built figure? It can be an animal that LEGO doesn’t make as a part or you can make a larger version of your favorite character, the only thing that matter is that it is built out of bricks and isn’t a minifigure.

Building Tips

Size matters not - The size of your brick built figure doesn’t matter it can be as big as thirty times the size of a minifigure or it can as small as the size of a minifigure. Look at what angles or curves you need to make and base your scale off of the bricks you have available.

Use smaller parts - The smaller parts you use the more detail you can achieve. Save the big parts for the guts, so you are using the strongest bricks to support your creation.

Make it posable - Use different kinds of hinges and joints to make it so you can move your build around and pose it in different ways, or just so you can achieve the angles you need.

RBBL Challenge Week 13: Castles

26037603697_28496dfee5_o (2).jpg

Middle Zealand

Go back to the magic and wonder of the Dark Ages! Not necessarily just castles; you can build anything from the medieval period, whether it is a blacksmith or a towns market - you get to choose!

Building Tips

Add a splash of color - When building castes they can be very boring when it comes to colors since they are made out of stone, to offset this add brightly colored banners or an accent color to the wall

Add an interior - often times when building a castle people ignore the interior and only build he outside of a building

Go for height! - Height is often more impressive than a building spread out over a lot of area

RBBL Challenge Week 14: Classic Spaceships

25766732636_1f2bfc00a2_c.jpg

Building Tips

Build Out, not up - Start with the cockpit and canopy, then build out from there. There is no gravity in space, so no more building from the ground up. Use lots of SNOT (studs not on top) pieces and change your perspective on building.

GREEBLE! - Greebling is when you add smaller pieces to make a surface look more interesting, and sometimes functional. The trick is grabbing a lot of small parts in the same color and develop some patterns to give your build more texture.

Anti-greebling - to make the greebled textures pop, be sure to have plenty of smooth, curvy sections. In classic space builds, this is usually done with the blue parts.

Make them fly - Get a dark poster board, curl it against a wall, and shoot your spaceship on a build in front of it. Just being a little bit off the ground will make it look so much better and the curled poster board will make the space behind your ship seem endless.

SPACESHIPS!

It’s time for Ryan’s favorite theme… (classic) SPACESHIPS! Not your fancy, Star Wars ships or just any multi-colored saucer; CLASSIC Spaceships stick to 2 colors (+ one translucent windshield color). All ships should be light bluish gray and blue (exceptions can be made for Octan green/white/red).

RBBL Challenge Week 15: Let’s Get Moving!

MildWarmCormorant-small.gif

Building Tips

Get inspired - There are a lot of amazing LEGO engineers out there that have made some amazing machines. With your parent, search around for some awesome creations and get inspired.

Be patient - You may need to build, re-build, breakdown, build again, and make lots of adjustments along the way. Don’t get discouraged, keep up the momentum. We are giving you an extra week for this challenge, so use it.

Clean it up - When using technic, it can be hard to see how beautiful your build is. Find ways to make it look clean and simple. Color coordinating and color blocking makes your build look less messy. Hide the gears, or at least the axles. Take a video against a blank background.

Move!

We’re Mindstorming some robots this week and preparing for our next camp making LEGO walker… that actually walk! For this special 2 WEEK Challenge, we want you to make something that moves. It doesn’t have to be powered by a motor or even connected with Technic parts. Just make it MOVE!
